Need we say more than "Carmina Burana?" In 1937 Carl Orff composed "Carmina Burana" based on 13th century German manuscript discovered in 1803 and reconstructed in 1847. His concept was "total theatre" where music, words, and movement work together.  This uniquely 20th century piece is a paradoxical combination of tunefulness, and almost brutal percussive style. At the same time it combines primitive, modern, and medieval influences.
