PET EXPO 2008

The Lycoming County SPCA, in conjunction with ClearChannel Communications is hosting the Third Annual Pet Expo at Indian Park of Montoursville on Sunday June 1, 2008 from Noon to 4:00 PM. This event is our third annual Pet Expo and we are hoping to make this event a huge success for Lycoming County and our surrounding communities.

Our goal for the Pet Expo is not only to raise awareness and money to benefit the thousands of animals the SPCA cares for each year, but to bring together pet lovers and pet service providers.

The Pet Expo includes plenty of fun things to do for the whole family. The day will include pets for adoption, pet products, pet service providers, and clubs and organizations that cater to pets and plenty of free demonstrations and workshops. We will also have food, children’s games, pony rides, Theme Basket Raffle Tickets, 50/50 tickets and Dog-Olympics, where dogs and their owners compete in both athletic and non-athletic games to win a variety of prizes You will also be able to meet radio personalities from Clear Channel Radio Williamsport and watch as some of your favorite people are “Locked Up” in kennels for adoption to raise money for the Lycoming County SPCA.

Everyone is welcomed to bring along their pet and socialize with other pet lovers. Only pets that are well behaved and current on vaccines are encouraged to attend the expo. The SPCA or ClearChannel Communications will not be responsible for any individual or pet attending this event. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times and have current license.

For more information about the Pet Expo, please contact John Hettinger, Director of Development at 322-4646, or visit www.lycoming.org/spca.

Rainbow Bridge Legacy Society
Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent, the eager body quivers. Suddenly she begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. YOU have been spotted and when you and your special friend finally meet you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress her beloved head and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you pass over Rainbow Bridge together....

Check out Pedigree's Website
Pedigree is helping to promote adoptions of shelter animals through various venues. If you have seen the commercial about Echo, the dog that was in a shelter awaiting adoption, then you may wonder what ever happened to Echo. Check out www.pedigree.com to find out.

Pedigree has been generously donating coupons for free 22 pound bags of dog food to help us feed our shelter dogs. You can help by going to www.dogsrulegear.com and purchase food for dogs through the pedigree buy a bag program featured on their web site.

No only that, but they have a terrific site where you can enter your own dog(s) picture(s) on their mural. Check it out!

YOUR PURCHASES HELP THE SPCA
The Lycoming County SPCA benefits from your purchases of pet products from most local retailers.

Manufacturers of items such as dog food and cat litter will donate a portion of their sales revenue to local shelters.

The Lycoming County SPCA is a participating shelter for many of these manufacturers.

A few examples of participating manufacturers are:
DAD's Pet Foods
Purina Products
Fresh Step or Scoop Away Cat Litter

When purchasing products for your pets, remember to cut off the UPC or Proof of Purchase labels from the items and drop them off or mail them to the SPCA at
2805 Reach Road. Williamsport, PA 17701.

If we are a participating sponsor of the brand you buy, we can submit the labels to the manufacturer for monetary contributions. If we currently are not participating in a particular brand of pet products but have received labels from those products, we will contact the manufacturer to become a participating shelter (if they offer contributions to local shelters).

This is an easy way to help the homeless animals of Lycoming County.

What's that Smell?
Visitors to the cat kennels will notice a different smell. We are now using pine pellet cat litter. This new (to us) litter adds a pleasant pine scent to the air. There is no litter dust so the cat kennels are much easier to clean. So if you are considering the donation of cat litter, please purchase the pine pellets. We think you will agree that it is a huge improvement!

AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Therapy Dogs International (TDI) Testing
You have the perfect dog, well mannered, obedient, affectionate, and looking to spread good cheer. You would love to take your faithful companion to visit assisted living homes, or schools but don’t have the required credentials.

Look no more! Eagles’ Wings Service Dogs, Inc., and the Lycoming County SPCA now offers AKC-CGC and TDI testing. While many dogs provide love and companionship in the home, not all dogs are qualified or have the temperament suited to be a Therapy dog. If you are interested in learing more you can visit http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/index.cfm or www.tdi-dog.org for more information. And if you feel your dog has what it takes to become a therapy dog, contact Ann Sanders at 433-0965 or e-mail at eagleswings@eagleswingsservicedogs.org for more information.
