Golf and Bowling Coach
Dave Lott
Summer 2010

Well, the bowling season is over for the
spring and we are about to start the local
golf season here in Lycoming County.
Golf and bowling are my wo personal 'lifetime'
sports and I am happy to be able to coach
our athletes. My Special Olympics history
started with the golf season a few years ago
because Luci asked me to come to the practice
one day. A son of a good friend is an athlete
and needed a coach. And I have been
involved ever since. Volunteering for the
program has led me to local and regional
competitions and even to be Head of
Delegation at the Summer Games once.
Believe it or not, I also was HOD at PA
Winter Games a few years back. Cross
country skiing used to be a winter time
activity for me. We had six inches of
"flurries" out there in Somerset county.
I guess they don't consider snow measured
in inches as anything other than flurries.
There was two to three FEET of snow out
on the trails we used.
Anyway, back to the golf....
We run our training sessions in the spring
and fall, mostly to keep out of the summer
heat, and have local competition. There are
usually eight or more athletes in golf. We
have training, practice, and then play a round
of golf on the par 3 course at White Deer.
We have one level four golfer who really
likes to play the regular course whenever
he gets a chance and he and I get out once
or twice during the summer. Last year he even
was on a foursome with me in our annual
golf fund-raiser outing. We had lots of fun
chasing golf balls around. A few even went in
the water. LOL.
Caoching and Special Olympics has become
a part of my life. Everyone should consider volunteering whether they are a parent or not.
