In Memoriam

  Cathie Overdorf (1964-2007)

It is with deep sadness in our hearts that the members of the Repasz Band note the passing of our dear friend and sister, Kathryn R. "Cathie" (Houseknecht) Overdorf.  Cathie had been our principal flute/piccolo player throughout her 22 year tenure, having joined the Band in 1985.  Cathie had high expectations of herself musically, but was always quick with a smile for others.  Members of her section complimented her on her never missing a note, quickly identifying errors in printed music and correcting them, and being a good teacher.

Cathie also served many years in the elected office of Band Treasurer, doing double duty in that position in the time leading up to, during, and after the 2006 ACB National Convention which was hosted by the Repasz Band as part of its 175th Anniversary celebration.  Cathie's formal music education was polished at Lock Haven University, where she was active in many musical ensembles and the honorary band sorority, Tau Beta Sigma, while earning her BFA in music.  She completed her teaching certification requirements through a cooperative agreement between LHU and Clarion University, and later earned a Masters degree at Bowling Green (OH) University.  Cathie will be missed
. . . . and remembered for years to come.

The first 3 photos are from the Lock Haven University Band's concert tour of Spain and Portugal in 1985.  The remaining photos are of Cathie with the Repasz Band.

Welcome to the home page of the Repasz Band of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, one of the oldest community bands in the United States . . . a continuous tradition since 1831.  We are thrilled to be able to share some of our illustrious history with you.

Please visit our site often and read about Daniel Repasz, the Band's history, one of the most popular marches of all time - the "
Repasz Band March," and one of our most famous conductors, John Hazel, the "Wizard Cornetist."  Mr. Hazel's virtuosity rivaled Jules Levy and Herbert Clarke according to newspaper accounts of his performances with the most famous bands of the early 1900s.  To hear a live recording of the "Repasz Band March" by the Repasz Band, click here.
