Lycoming Mediation Project

Mission

Lycoming Mediation Project, Inc. is a non-profit corporation founded in 1995. Its mission is "to promote peace and diminish conflict by assisting persons with disagreements to come to some agreeable resolution of their differences." This is accomplished in an atmosphere of confidentiality, respecting the dignity of all parties, without the expense of the legal system.

What is Mediation?

Mediation is a voluntary process to resolve conflicts. Two or more parties who have a dispute agree to meet with a mediator (or team of mediators) to reach an agreement. The mediator is not a judge or decision-maker. The role of the mediator is to keep discussion going until the parties reach a solution, if possible.

But the real magic of mediation is that it helps the parties arrive at their own agreement. In this way, both parties walk away with the assurance that the dispute has truly been resolved.

Who are Mediators?

Our mediators are volunteers from a broad cross-section of the community. All of our mediators have received training to help resolve disputes. They come from all walks of life, and bring a variety of experiences to bear in dealing with your disputes.

What disputes can be mediated?

Almost any dispute can be mediated. There are certain types of disputes that Lycoming Mediation Project, Inc. cannot help resolve. In most such cases, this is because a mediation process already exists. No dispute is "too small" to mediate. It is easier to deal with problems before they escalate to large proportions. Just call Lycoming Mediation Project, Inc. at 321-3096. Our staff will help find a mediator who has the time and experience to help with your dispute.

Is there a cost?

There is a modest cost for obtaining mediation services. While our mediators are volunteers, there are costs of providing the service, which is partially recovered through fees.
