EQUIPMENT PROVIDED:  |_| Yes   |_| No   |X| Targets ONLY

FEE: |X| Yes  |_| No       LOCATION: HI-POWER

SPECIAL REGULATIONS:  TRAP AND SKEET RANGES CLOSED DURING SCHEDULED HI-POWER EVENT

DESCRIPTION:  The competitors shoot against other shooters in their own class by ability and equipment class.  The rifles are center fire. The shooters shoot at metal silhouette targets that must fall off the rail when hit. The targets range from the outline of a chicken at 200 meters distance that is about twelve inches tall to the outline of a ram that is about three by four feet at 500 meters and weighs about 60 pounds!  In between are the pig, or javelina as it is called, at 300 meters, and the turkey at 385 meters. If you want to see some exotic rifles, this is the place to be.  The match consists of 40 rounds or ten shots at each distance. The shooter shoots one shot at each of five targets within three minutes and then gets a break while the targets are reset. Then he shoots a second round of five and stops.  The shooter progresses this way from chickens to pigs to turkeys and finally to rams.

The purpose behind the program is to train the general public in the use of military style firearms

to act as the "well-trained militia".   The shooter uses a military style firearm

and shoots a 52 round course of fire. It is conducted in a military style also.  There are two sighter, or practice rounds, and then 10 rounds slow fire standing, 10 rounds rapid fire standing to sitting, 10 rounds rapid fire standing to sitting, and finally 20 rounds slow fire prone. We shoot all the courses at 100 yards using targets designed to simulate the real course that goes from 100 out to 600 yards. Shooters completing the event become eligible to purchase a rifle from the CMP at a reduced price.  The club provides all equipment for shooters to participate.   Many bring their own equipment to shoot the match for score.
