The Carriage House is where Mr. Heiss stored buggies that were rented out.     This is a Conestoga Wagon.  Some of these wagons were used to carry produce and agricultural products from the Lancaster area to Philadelphia, and then return to Lancaster with manufactured and possibly imported goods.     Also, here is an example of a late nineteenth century Mail Wagon
