Wes Egli will lead a birding trip on Canfield Island, which is just east of the city of Williamsport. Meet at 8 a.m. at the Canfield Island parking lot.

23

Monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. "The Loyalsock Story - excerpts from the PENNFUTURE podcast " hosted by Dr. Anne Harris Katz and Dr. Mel Zimmerman. This documentary features the people of the area who have worked ceaselessly to clean up the Loyalsock Creek and are fiercely protecting it now. You’ll hear the pride in their voices as they talk about the recovery of the Loyalsock from damage from both the coal industry and bad development, and exactly how important this waterway is to the quality of their lives.

 
  Sept. 26 Not an Audubon event, but one worthy of your consideration:
Field trip at Montour Preserve, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Meet in Environmental Education Center. Jon D. Beam Senior Naturalist, will lead a bird walk. Wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather and bring binoculars and field guide if you have them.
 
  Oct. 28 Monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m."Taking Care of Our Own: Lycoming County's Chesapeake Bay Tributary Strategy" by Megan D. Lehman, Environmental Planner for Lycoming County.  
  Nov. 12 Wes Egli of Lycoming Audubon Society will give a bird-feeding presentation at the Muncy Library, starting at 7 p.m. Wes will show a variety of slides and display different feeders and bird food. Please pre-register by calling 546-5014.  
  Nov. 18 Monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m."La Naturaleza de Costa Rica" by Anita Casper and Jerry Miller, who will narrate a slide program on their trip to Costa Rica, a country of fantastic natural beauty and colorful wildlife.  
  Nov. 21 Saturday morning Field Trip. Dave Ferry will lead us to northern Lycoming County and Rose Valley Lake to search for winter raptors, waterfowl, and passerines. Meet at Wegmans in downtown Williamsport at 8 a.m. and return by Noon. Contact Dave for more info.  
  Dec. 16 Christmas Dinner & Program at the Genetti Hotel's Terrace Room in downtown Williamsport. Social time begins at 6 p.m. with dinner starting at 6:30. LAS' Dave Shollenberger will present with great pictures about 'Whales of Southeast Alaska' and 'Brown Bears of Katmai National Park'. Refer to the Nov-Dec newsletter for the reservation details.

Monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. "On the Right Track: Identifying and Interpreting Animal Tracks" and "Ask the Professor: H1N1 Flu and Bird Flu". Lycoming College's Dr. Mary Morrison will present.

Not an Audubon event, but one worthy of your consideration: Winter bird walk at Montour Preserve, 10-11:30 a.m. Meet in Visitors Center. Jon D. Beam, Senior Naturalist, will lead the walk through fields and woodlands. Wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather and bring binoculars and a field guide if you have them.

 
  Feb. 12-15 The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). Plan to participate! More info.  
  Feb. 24 Monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. "The Eagle Experience". Mike Kuriga of Lycoming Audubon Society will bring his Bald Eagle "TJ".  
  March 6 Not an Audubon event, but one worthy of your consideration: Home Gardeners School in Mifflinburg (Union County), offered by Penn State Cooperative Extension. Registration is required.

  March 24 Monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. "Ridgetop IBAs (Important Bird Areas) and Wind Turbines". Kim Van Fleet, IBA Coordinator for Pennsylvania Audubon will present.  
  April 28 Monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. "White Nose Syndrome on Bat Populations in Central Pennsylvania". Dr. Dee Ann Reeder, Assistant Professor of Biology at Bucknell University will discuss her research in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Game Commission.  
  May 8 North American Migration Count. If you are interested in participtating in Lycoming County and available for this entire Saturday, please contact Wes Egli or call (570) 584-3107.  
 

May 19

Annual Tureen Dinner, Membership Meeting and LAS Board elections, starting at 6 p.m. Doug Gross, Wildlife Biologist, Endangered Bird Specialist and Pennsylvania eBird Coordinator will discuss "The Recovery of Endangered Birds in Pennsylvania", with special emphasis on Bald Eagles.  
    Monthly meetings are at the Dining/Recreation Complex of Little League World Headquarters in South Williamsport (Turn north onto Fairmont Drive from Rt. 15 and look for parking area to the right [east])    
   The nearby Seven Mountains Audubon Society offers periodic field trips.    
  The Alpine Club of Williamsport offers periodic hikes and outings to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.
