2003 Lycoming Audubon Christmas Bird Count
January 3, 2004

The 2003 Christmas Bird Count was held on Saturday, January 3rd, 2004. There were 20 participants this year divided over 11 areas in our count circle. The count circle is a 15-mile diameter circle, centered at the Loyalsock Creek Bridge in Montoursville. Highlights this year include an adult female Rufous Hummingbird that is an extremely rare visitor to the eastern United States during Fall and Winter. Other interesting birds sighted were 3 species of falcon including 3 Peregrine Falcons, 12 Kestrels, and 1 Merlin. Two Saw-Whet Owls responded to calls in the Williamsport Water Authority property off Sulphur Springs Rd. There were no northern finch species recorded this year.
