  Hiking Information: All Alpine Club hikes MEET AT THE PARKING LOT OF THE SOVEREIGN BANK IN SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT. It is located on Southern Avenue, between Market and Hastings Street, near the southern end of the Market Street Bridge. We generally hike regardless of weather conditions. Hikers must stay behind the leader and are not allowed to depart from the group. The transportation fee is collected by the leader and distributed to the drivers.
Bring lunch, snacks, and water, and be prepared with clothing and shoes suitable for the weather and terrain.

  Feb. 24, 2008     Hike, Tureen Dinner, and Annual Meeting                     Transportation Fee $1

Meet time: 9 a.m.
About a three mile hike to and from Jacoby Falls, in northern Lycoming County.  No major climbs.

The Tureen Dinner will be at 6 p.m. at the home of Helen & Charlie Schwarz, 1405 Pine Crest Drive, South Williamsport, PA, (570) 326.5644.   Please call in advance and bring a dish to share. The meeting will follow dinner.
 

 
  March 9   Hike: The Ordinance and State Game Lands #252                   Trans. Fee $1

Meet time: 9 a.m.
This hike on the old Ordinance will explore old cemeteries, roads to ammunition bunkers (igloos), and other ruins used during World War II. Waterfowl may be on the ponds. Approximately 4-5 miles.

 


 
  April 6 and 20, May 4 and 18, and June 29     Loyalsock Trail Care Hikes

Meet time: 8 a.m. Please help maintain the Loyalsock Trail (LT). Your help is crucial in maintaining this historic trail which has existed since 1951. Ruth will determine the work area each day. If you are willing to work on one of the eight trail sections or a portion of the LT at some other time, please contact Ruth Rode.
 


 
  May 10     PA Chapter of The Nature Conservancy Hike: Dutchman's Falls and the Haystacks      Trans. Fee $3

Meet time: 10 a.m. at the junction of Routes 154 and 220 near Laporte, PA
The hike starts at the Mead Rd. Parking LOt and follows the LT and side trail to Dutchman's Falls and The Haystacks, a mystery to geologists. HIkers will view Brook Kedron flowing through a hand-cut-and-laid stone double culvert under the W & NB railroad grade, and flowing over bedrock as a long slide falls. Approximately 3 miles.

 
  June 8     Alpine Club Hike: Gas Line Ridge      Transportation Fee: $3

Meet time: 8 a.m.
Bob Webber, a retired forester and great naturalist, will lead hikers up Naval Run past the waterfall to Jerald Hollow. We'll then make a steep, slow-paced ascent up Jerald Hollow to the Black Forest Trail. Bob will show some of the beautiful vistas he created and introduce us to his spouse at their humble mountaintop home before we descend the Black Forest Trail to our starting point at the Naval Run Parking Area.
Approximately 6 miles.


 
  June 26  Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike: Old Davidson Road & Dutchman Swamp

Meet time: 9:30 a.m. at Outlet Pond in Eagles Mere
Hike from Glass Creek to Dutchman Swamp and on to Lake Mokoma on State Game Lands #13. Approximately 4.5 miles.

This will be an easy walk on Mokoma Conservancy land. Approximately 2.5 miles.


 
  July 3  Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike: Camp Mountain Waterfalls and Vistas

Hike old logging roads for this scenic, 4 to 5 mile hike.


 
  July 8  Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike: Rock Escarpment Ramble

Meet time: 9:30 a.m. at Outlet Pond in Eagles Mere
See rock boulders, labyrinths, and escarpments in this approximately 1 mile hike in the area of Loyalscock Canyon Vista.


 
  July 10  Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike: Waterfalls on a Stream near Laporte

Meet time: 9:30 a.m. at Outlet Pond in Eagles Mere
This upstream hike will offer waterfalls and a wetlands with the site of an old beaver dam. Approximately 4.5 miles.


 
  July 17  Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike: Sones Pond to Flat Rock on the Loyalsock and RedX-6 Trails.  Leader: Ruth Rode    (570) 322-5878

  July 20  Alpine Club Outing: Bike on the South Branch Roaring Tract

This bike ride (upstream and back) will be on a road that parallels the beautiful Roaring Creek Valley, off of Rt. 54, about four miles south of Elysburg. (bring your own bike)

  July 24   Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike:  Worlds End State Park to Eagles Mere Park

Meet time: 9:30 a.m. at Outlet Pond in Eagles Mere. We'll use the following trails: Double Run Nature, Red X, Loyalsock, Loyalsock Canyon Vista--to see waterfalls and Mineral Spring. Approximately 5 miles.


 
  July 29  Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike: Conklin Run Wilderness Area & State Game Lands #13

Meet time: 9:30 a.m.. We'll bushwhack up Coal Run to see waterfalls and explore the Sones Pond area. Approximately 4 miles.


 
  August 7  Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike: Bowman's Branch of the Lehigh Valley Railroad

Meet time: 9:30 a.m. at Outlet Pond in Eagles Mere. Walk with us on this old standard gauge railroad grade between Rt. 487 and Lopez. Approximately 6 miles.


 
  August 10  Alpine Club Outing: Bike and Hike along the Susquehanna & New York Railroad

Meet time: 8:00 a.m.
Bike an old railaroad grade from Wheelerville (PA) to Rollison Run, then hike up waterfalls and descend a hollow. The return bike trip will include a stop to view another waterfall and pool at Pine Swamp Run, and perhaps pick blueberries. (bring your own bike and berry containers)


 
  August 14  Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike: Waterfall Hike

Meet time: 9:30 a.m. at Outlet Pond in Eagles Mere. This hike follows an old railroad grade past waterfalls and slide falls. Approximately 5 miles.


 
  August 19  Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike: A Wilderness Walk to the Haystacks

Meet time: 9:30 a.m. This scenic circuit hike includes the Haystacks, a double stone stream culvert and a long slide falls. Approximately 2.5 miles.


 
  August 21  Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike: Coal Mine Road to Eagles Mere

Meet time: 9:30 a.m. at Outlet Pond in Eagles Mere. We will hike parts of the following trails to see waterfalls and more: Loyalsock, Shared-Use, Fern ROck Nature, Cross Country Ski, Yellow Arrow. Approximately 6 miles.


 
  August 28  Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike: Historic Eagles Mere Path Medley

Meet time: 9:30 a.m. at Outlet Pond in Eagles Mere. Hike on historic paths of the 'hotel era' on this circuit hike: Green Arrow, Red Arrow, Yellow Arrow, White Arrow, and other paths. Approximately 6 miles.


 
  September 4  Weekday Eagles Mere and Mokoma Conservancy Hike: Eagles Mere Park to Winner Knob & Mineral Spring

A slow-paced, easy hike starting at the Outlet Pond in Eagles Mere to see places of beauty. Approximately 2-3 miles.


 
  September 21 at 6 p.m.  Alpine Club Banquet celebrating the 55th year of the Alpine Club

An all-you-can eat catered turkey dinner in the basement of St. Lawrence Catholic Church at the corner of West Central Avenue & Winthrop Street in South Williamsport along with an interesting speaker to be announced.


 
  October 26   Alpine Club Hike: Williamsport Watershed Hike                   Trans. Fee $3

Meet time: 8 a.m.
Hike on Summit Trail to and then down the Culbertson Trail to Hively Valley, and then over Bald Eagle Mt. to South Williamsport. Approximately 6 miles.


 
  No hikes are planned for November and December
 
 
  The Alpine Club of Williamsport and/or its leaders, officers or representatives shall not be liable for any injury, loss, or damage to person and/or property, direct or consequential, arising out of any trips and/or activities of the Alpine Club. The assumption of risk which is inherent in this type of outdoor and rugged activity is implied on the part of each person who attends any Club event/trip. Every person participating in any said trip and/or activity assumes all risk and liability in connection therewith. Individuals under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult who assumes responsibility for the minor. Any member or guest has the right to decline being transported to and from an event with or by another individual, or to decline to transport any other individual.
