Our Trip for Amanda
Speaker: Wayne Palmer

Wayne Palmer, who is usually known for Photoshop presentations, will present something entirely different for the Historical Society's October Coffee Hour.  In 2005, Wayne Palmer and his wife, Pamela Herrington, took a trip to China to pick up their adopted daughter.  Throughout their trip, they took over 3,200 images and 7 hours of video, which they condensed into a one-hour program, entitled "Our Trip for Amanda."
Although sightseeing was not the purpose of the trip, Wayne and Pam, both avid photographers, were not going to let their journey of a lifetime go undocumented.  While in China they visited three major cities, the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden City, and made an emotional visit to their daughter's orphanage.  The presentation is part travelogue, part documentary, and part personal journey to parenthood.
Wayne Palmer is owner of Palmer Multimedia Imaging.  He has been a technical editor for numerous Photoshop and digital imaging books including Photoshop Restoration and Retouching, 3rd edition (co-author).  Pamela Herrington is a family physician and a partner of Cornerstone Family Medicine.

Nippenose Valley
Speaker: Wayne O. Welshans

In his PowerPoint presentation, Wayne Welshans, retired Williamsport High School educator, takes a look at Nippenose Valley in southwestern Lycoming County.  Welshans expresses a "special liking for local and family history" and enjoys talking with people about the "old days," so his program is sure to include anecdotes and reminiscences.
Wayne O. Welshans, a native of Jersey Shore, received his B.S. from Lock Haven State Teacher's College and a M.S. in Zoology from the University of New Hampshire.  He taught Honor's Biology at Williamsport High School for 29 years, retiring in 1995.  In the 1990s, he compiled three books on Nippenose Valley: A Nippenose Collection, The Oval Ledger, and A Chronology of Nippenose Valley Events.  Last year he produced a book on Jersey Shore via Arcadia Publishers, and plans another for Nippenose Valley next year.

Williamsport Suzuki Violinists

The Williamsport Suzuki Violinists originated in 1979 under the direction of Patricia Thayer, based on the philosophies and teachings of Shinichi Suzuki of Japan.  All children can learn to play the violin just as they learn their mother tongue, one step at a time, mastering each step, given the proper environment.  These student violinists range in age from four years old through high school.  We hope you will join us for the December coffee hour to experience first hand the beautiful music of these talented violinists.
